Running through the fields under a 35-degree summer sun will sooner or later lead you to illusions, mirages…
fantasies that are easy to imagine and considerably harder to make real.
In the middle of nowhere, fountains begin to appear.
Marble.Stone.Porcelain.Plastic.Lavish, extravagant, monumental fountains.
Some are even inflatable and portable, ready to carry opulence from one place to another.
Temporary monuments to excess decorating the drylands.
The emptied-out regions of Spain suddenly fill with defiant opulence.
They become pharaonic.Imperial.Baroque.Water pours, gushes, spills and overflows everywhere.
That liquid, solid and gaseous gold which, depending on the circumstances, can also turn into smoke. A land remarkably permeable to the new and the divine,yet strangely impermeable to a science that keeps changing the rules of the game.
Fountains to cool the body.To extinguish the fires within. And, with a little luck, the ones outside too.
